The archaeological site of Nikopolis occupies 9000 acres and is located in the Prefecture of Preveza. Augustus Octavian founded Nicopolis to honor the gods Poseidon and Mars for his victory at the battle of Actium.
In the city initially settled Aitolians and Italians. The archaeologist Alexander Filadelfeas started the excavations in the Ancient Nikopoli discovering great monuments and particularly mosaic from the early years of Christianity.
Guests of Nicopolis are impressed by Octavian’s theatre. They have the opportunity to visit also the gymnasium, stage and the impressive aqueduct carrying water from the Louro River.
